Suppose a World Without Jesus

Suppose with me for a moment, that Jesus Christ never lived. Was never born, never died, and certainly was never resurrected.

Suppose for a moment that we are each alone, and by that I mean that there is no Greater Power, only the power you can muster inside your own mind and body.

Suppose we each have to live for ourselves and our family only.

Do you think the world would be better off? Yes, I know, a great many atrocities have been done in the name of religion. Yes, I know that some people believe we would be better off if there was no religion, or God. At least John Lennon thought so. He and many others believe we would all be better off just trying to be good people, trying to do good things. They believe we humans can be selfless, so selfless that we would be willing to give our lives for the betterment of humanity. It all sounds good, perhaps too good.

Suppose We’re Near the End

You see, the funny thing is, I don’t see the world getting any better. In fact, when I look around, what I see is that the world is slowly collapsing. We have an active shooter about once a week. Nobody can agree on anything political. The likelihood of a world war seems just around the corner. The only good news seems to be that the economy is doing fairly well.

I don’t know how long you have until you consider retirement, but for me that time is measured in months instead of years. Yet, when I examine the condition of the world today, I have to wonder how much of my retirement I will get to enjoy.

Ok, enough supposing, lets come back to reality, and look at what is really happening.

Jesus did live, He was born, He did die, and while you may not personally believe He rose from the dead, there are millions of people who do believe that.

So, why is the world in such a sad state if there is a God? Well, let me tell you;

Matthew 24:4-8 Jesus told them, “Don’t let anyone mislead you, for many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Messiah.’ They will deceive many. And you will hear of wars and threats of wars, but don’t panic. Yes, these things must take place, but the end won’t follow immediately. Nation will go to war against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in many parts of the world. But all this is only the first of the birth pains, with more to come.” (NLT)

You see, this state of affairs we are in was predicted 2000 years ago. The world is slowly coming to an end. This is not a happy thought, but it is true. Fortunately, because Jesus did live, was born, and was resurrected from the grave, He has already proven that He is greater than any other man who ever lived, He has power over death itself, He is God.

A Promise

He also left us a promise;

Matthew 24:31 “And he will send out his angels with the mighty blast of a trumpet, and they will gather his chosen ones from all over the world–from the farthest ends of the earth and heaven.” (NLT)

So, there is hope! Earlier I said that the only good news was that the economy is doing well. But the world’s economy is only temporary, Jesus has promised us abundant life here and now, and life with Him forever. That isn’t just good news, it’s the best news ever. (1)

My Joy is in an abundant life with Jesus Christ, how about you?
